Is Charles Tillman the NFL Defensive Player of the Year?

We’re at about the midway point of the NFL season, and not only does that leave fans wondering who’s going to make it to the Super Bowl, it also has them wondering who’s going to be taking awards home at the end of the year. One of the most talked about awards this year is the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award; and Charles Tillman of the Chicago Bears is one of the biggest names being thrown around to win it. So the question is, will he?

It’s hard to say. Tillman has had an incredible season this year, getting 43 tackles in, 2 interceptions, and a whopping 7 forced fumbles. He has been one of the biggest problems on the field for some of the best receivers, including Calvin Johnson; and he’s especially prone to taking the ball away from the other team to give his team another chance to score. All of it adds up to a very good argument for giving Charles Tillman the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award this season.

But it’s still early. And out of the ten years that he’s played, this is the first time Tillman has given himself elite status. Not to mention the fact that linebacker J.J. Watts is most likely also going to be up for the award; and he’s going to be a tough one to beat.

But let’s remember that it’s a season award and not a career award; and Tillman has had an outstanding year. And comparing Watts against Tillman is difficult, because their two positions are uniquely different. Whether or not Tillman will win Defensive Player of the Year will depend on what the league is looking for when they hand it out; and whether or not he can remain injury-free. But there’s no doubt that so far, Tillman has made a very good case for himself when it comes to winning the award this year.

Atlanta Falcons Still Undefeated

The Atlanta Falcons became the only NFL team still left undefeated after they beat the Dallas Cowboys 19 — 13 on Sunday night, putting their season up to a perfect 8 — 0 so far. And perhaps one of the most amazing things is that they did it without two of their most powerful defensive players — Peria Jerry and Sean Weatherspoon.

Sean Weatherspoon sat the game out, dealing with a sprained right ankle, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t do his part. Hobbling up and down the sideline, making calls, and helping everyone out with where they were supposed to be, Weatherspoon was as much part of this win as any other Falcon on the team. And so was Peria Jerry. The defensive tackle has been riddled with knee injuries for the past two years, and swelling around the area after he injured it during the first half took him out of the game against Dallas.

The injury is not serious though, and both Jerry and Weatherspoon are thought to be back on the field this week. This has fans even more excited to see what these Falcons are made out of, and not just Atlanta fans either. All NFL fans love to see a team have a great season — even if they’re only waiting for the fallout. That most likely won’t come next week, as the Falcons will face the New Orleans Saints, one of the worst teams in the league this year.

In fact, it’s thought that the Falcons will continue their perfect streak until they meet up with the New York Giants in Week 15. Whether the Falcons will be able to take that game or not is largely still up in the air; as the Giants are formidable opponents. But one thing’s for sure. Just like every other Atlanta Falcons game so far this year, that one against the Giants is going to be a great one to watch.

Trail Blazers Beat Rockets in OT

Well, if there’s going to be any Linsanity in Houston this year, it’s going to have to wait until at least the next game, as Jeremy Lin and Company lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in overtime on Saturday night.

For the first half of the game in which the Trail Blazers overpowered the Rockets 95 — 85, it looked as though the Rockets were going to have another win to add to their great season so far. But the Trail Blazers dominated the third quarter, and carried that strength with them right through to the final buzzer in OT.

LeMarcus Aldridge was the hero of the game with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Damian Lillard also did his part, putting up 20 points on the board (8 of which he scored in OT,) and getting nine assists while at it. Nicolas Batum helped with 17 points, nine boards, four assists, and six steals.

James Harden was in front of the Houston crowd for the first time wearing a Rockets jersey, and he gave them what they wanted, tallying up 24 points for his team. It was unfortunate that his 3-pointer from the wing was blocked in the last minutes of the game, as that would have given fans what they were really after, another win. Unfortunately, his shot was blocked by the Trail Blazers. Shortly after, Lillard took a chance to get his team back into the game with a layup, and he was rewarded. After his ball sailed through the net, Portland was only lagging by 2.

That was when J.J. Hickson stepped up for the Trail Blazers with a layup that brought the game to 78 — 78 before Jeremy Lin sailed through with a layup of his own, putting the Rockets up three points. Those would be added to the 13 points and seven assists in total that Lin contributed to the game.

The game is the first victory for Portland out of the last four meetings between these two teams.

Daughtry, Three Doors Down, POD: Can You Handle It?

Some of the best rock might just be about to stop into a city near you, and the only question is whether or not you can handle this many rock hits all at once, and all by different bands. That rock comes by way of a tour that’s being headlined by Daughtry and Three Doors Down — with P.O.D. coming along for much of the ride.

The tour kicks off on November 17 in Robinsonville, MS and is currently scheduled for 19 total stops, ending in Anaheim, CA on December 15. P.O.D. will be along for most of those dates, with the exception of November 27 — December 3.

For Daughtry, it will mean not much rest as they’ve just finished off a tour in Europe where they accompanied Nickelback. They are currently supporting Break the Spell, their third studio effort that was released late last year. It’s from this record that fans can expect much of the playlist to be taken from.

As for Three Doors Down, they’re working on a greatest hits album currently, and with songs like “Kryptonite,” “When I’m Gone,” and “One Light,” the band has promised that’s just what concert-goers are going to get.

Daniel Tosh 2013 Tour May Be His Last

If you haven’t heard the jokes of Daniel Tosh, then you are missing out on a seriously funny good time.  The American born comedian has a razor sharp wit, and isn’t afraid to use it on any topic that comes his way.  Many of his jokes may not be for the faint of heart, but they wouldn’t be nearly as funny if they were!

The comedian’s first big break came in 2001 when he made an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.  A string of appearances followed after that and eventually culminated in a special on comedy Central Presents.  In 2009, the comedian got his own show called Tosh.0, in which he mocks Internet clips with sometimes racy but always hilarious jokes.  It is currently one of the highest-ranking non-animated shows on the network averaging over two million viewers.

His newest endeavor is that of being the producer of the newest Comedy Central animated show “Brickleberry”.  It first aired in September 2012, and already has critics and fans in sidesplitting laughter.  The show focuses on forest rangers in the Brickleberry National Park, and Tosh voices the character Malloy, a bear cub with a foul mouth.

Tosh has currently stated that he plans to end his career in May 2013 on his birthday by either “committing suicide or retiring to the beach”.  He even has a clock on his website counting down the amount of time left until his birthday.  Some fans believe it is a joke, but for those that want to see the comedian live and in person, well there is no time like the present!

Luckily for fans the show can be seen several places over the next few months.  He will be performing live at the Terry Fator Theatre at the Mirage in Las Vegas, the State Theatre in Minneapolis, and the Silver Legacy Casino in Reno.  If you plan to be in any of those cities in the upcoming months, you may want to book your tickets now, as his shows are often sold out in advance.  Come hear the newest jokes from Daniel Tosh, and see what all the laughter is about.

Notre Dame For the Win During Triple-Overtime

Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson led his team to a 29-26 victory against the Pittsburgh Panthers after a hard-fought triple-overtime battle in South Bend Saturday night. With this win, the Fighting Irish currently stand undefeated at 9-0 and the team’s winning combination of a strong offense and defense make the old blue-and-gold seem unstoppable this season.

Golson started after initially being benched, and the kid was on fire during Saturday’s game–throwing for 227 yards, rushing for 74 yards, and ultimately scoring three touchdowns. That’s not to say that his performance was flawless. Golson was responsible for throwing a late-fourth-quarter pick, which he also quickly recovered from, with Notre Dame holding firm ground into the first OT.

What followed was a test of wills for the players, with matching field goals in the first overtime, a missed 33-yard field goal attempt by Pittsburgh in the second, and finally the Irish’s fateful field goal that put them over the top in the third.

Players and fans alike leapt in celebration after Golson emerged from the pile of bodies victoriously. Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly even advised his team earlier this season that every team they would encounter this year would be bringing their A-game, and that they couldn’t relax for a moment or risk losing unexpectedly to an underdog team. Pittsburgh played fantastic, holding its own against the Irish, but in the end it just wasn’t enough.

Now, as Golson and the rest of the team look ahead to the next challenge on the field, they can relax for a moment to revel in their currently flawless record.

No Doubt Pulls Controversial Video for New Single “Looking Hot”

No Doubt, a mainstay of pop music for last fifteen years, has officially pulled the now-controversial music video for their new single “Looking Hot” after it was broadcast on YouTube. Some in the Native American community claim that they were offended by the video, which depicts lead songstress/siren Gwen Stefani as a Native American girl kidnapped by a pair of dubious cowboys (played by guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young) only to be rescued by the Native American chief (bassist Tony Kanal). The band promptly removed the video at the behest of the user community who commented that the video was offensive, even racist.

No Doubt issued a statement shortly after the debacle saying, “As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history…Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people…We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video.”

Obviously, No Doubt has a long track record of pushing the envelope in terms of their music and style, but never of intentionally offending anyone. In the wake of the “Looking Hot” video’s demise, the band is still going strong and is currently on tour to promote their new album Push and Shove.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra 2012 Tour Tickets Still Available

Haven’t heard of Trans-Siberian Orchestra? Have you been a fan for years, but have never had the chance to see them live? If either of these are true, or if you’re just dying for yet another chance to see them once again, now is the time to get tickets for their Lost Christmas Eve tour.

The Trans-Siberian orchestra is known for the amazing, pyrotechnical rock concerts that they’ve been putting on ever since the late 90s. Fog machines, lasers, and lights are always a part of the show, and you can be sure that on Lost Christmas, you’ll see more of the same. It may be because no other effects would really go as well against the band’s hard core heavy metal rock; or maybe just because the band knows what it takes to put on a truly incredible show.

Like many of their shows from the past, concerts on this TSO tour will be divided up into two unofficial acts. From the first they’ll be playing fan favorites from “The Lost Christmas Eve” album such as “Music Box Blues,” “Lost Christmas Eve,” and “Christmas Nights in Blue.” For the second act they’ll be performing other favorite songs from past albums so that fans can get a good mix of all the songs they love so much.

The major stops along the tour include Cincinnati, Chicago, Las Vegas, Tampa, and Houston, to name just a few. Tickets are still available but you can bet they won’t be for long. TSO always sells out in a hurry, so get your tickets today!

“Downtown Abbey” Heartthrob Dan Stevens Burns Up Broadway with Jessica Chastain in “The Heiress”

The Heiress, a revival period drama originally written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz is opening on Broadway tonight following almost a month of previews. The show was expected to open to critical acclaim, and if the response is anything like what’s been seen and heard in the last few weeks, it’s going to. That’s not surprising though, considering that two huge stars — Dan Stevens and Jessica Chastain — both hold leading roles in the show.

What happens when you fall in love with a girl who’s rich? What if that girl is “not clever,” plain-looking, and not especially charming around men? What if she has an overbearing and extremely cold father? And what if you love the girl’s money more than you do her? These are all questions that are analyzed in The Heiress, a play about a suitor named Morris Townsend (played by Stevens) who’s after Catherine Sloper (played by Chastain.) When Morris and Catherine finally meet and fall in love, her father is dead set against it, believing that Morris is only after Catherine’s inheritance.

The play is a roller coaster of emotions, mostly for Catherine, but also for the audience as they too, try to figure out what the real intentions are of the characters on stage. The play is directed by Moises Kaufman and other cast members include: Molly Camp (Marian Almond); Kieran Campion (Arthur Townsend); Virginia Kull (Maria); De Nelson (Mrs. Montgomery); and Caitlin O’Connell (as Aunt Elizabeth Almond.)

Previews began on October 6, and the play officially opens tonight. This play has been talked about for months, so don’t miss your chance and get your theater tickets today!

The Jonas Bros. LIVE at Pantages Theatre in L.A. Nov. 27 & 28

When the Jonas Brothers announced that they were going to be putting on a show at the famed Radio City Hall on October 11, it took about ten minutes for the show to sell out. Fans brought that excitement with them to the show that night and it’s given the Brothers a boost to do a couple more U.S. shows. This time they’ll be at another historic American theater — the Pantages.

“We were completely humbled and blown away by the fan response when we announced our New York show,” the group said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show when making the announcement. “The energy at Radio City was so incredible; we just couldn’t wait to do another U.S. show. We are thrilled that we’ll be able to share that same excitement in Los Angeles!”

Those shows will be held on November 27 and 28, with pre-sales for tickets going on sale today; and general sales beginning this Saturday, November 3. But why just a few shows here and there from this massive boy band?

The Jonas Bros say that they’re just getting geared up for a full tour next year, although they did not reveal whether or not it would be a world tour; or when that tour would begin. For now, they seem happy enough to tease fans with huge dates, and get them pumped up for anything else the Brothers may soon be announcing.
