English-Irish boy band, One Direction, kicks of their “One Direction 2013” world tour this coming February 23, in London’s O2 Arena. Originally billed as the UK & Ireland Tour, the concert has since been expanded to include shows in both North America and Australasia after the bands meteoric rise to success.

The commercial success, sold out shows, and an extremely high demand for more tickets has led the tour to expand to over 100 shows. More than 300,000 tickets sold within a day of being released for sale, and sales totaling over $15 million in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Signed to Syco Records after an impressive third place finish on the British TV show The X Factor, One Direction has become a prominent group in mainstream pop music, breaking records and topping the music charts in nearly every major market the world over. One Direction has been described as having sparked a renewed interest in boy bands as part of the so-called “New British Invasion” in the United States. Selling 15 million records across the globe, as well as garnering a BRIT award and 3 MTV Video Music awards, they have been declared Billboard’s “Top New Artist” of 2012.
