No Doubt You Must See No Doubt This Season!
No Doubt was a happening 90’s band that was led by Gwen Stefani. One of their biggest hits “Don’t Speak” spent an astonishing 16 weeks on the Hot 100. Of course, as these things go, Gwen decided she wanted a solo career, and off she went to pursue it. She did have a number of hits herself, including “Hollaback Girl” with the famous “b-a-n-a-n-a-s” line. Most No Doubt fans assumed that was it for the original band. Well sigh no longer! No Doubt is back together and getting ready to tour!
The good news is that No Doubt is releasing their brand new album called “Push and Shove” on September 25, 2012. This will be the bands 6th album together, and fans can’t wait to see what they have come up with after the long hiatus. Will their sound be the same, has it changed over time? Their first single entitled “Settle Down” was released to fans on July 16th and hit 34 on the billboard charts.
Fans, it is time to be on the lookout for your tickets. Currently the band is scheduled to play the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 21st with Rihanna, Usher and other music acts. Then from November 24th to December 4th the band will be performing live at the Gibson Amphitheatre at the Universal City walk in California. New dates for their tour promoting the new album are also sure to be released soon.
Take a step back and hear your old No Doubt favorites like “Spiderwebs”, “It’s My Life”, “Ex-Girlfriend”, “Underneath It All”, and “Just a Girl” or your personal favorite song off their old albums. You’ll also be one of the first to hear all of the bands newest songs live and in person. Track names are currently listed as “Looking Hot”, “Gravity” “Heaven”, “Dreaming the Same Dream” and more.
The hot lead singer Gwen Stefani, as well as guitarist Tom Dumont, and Tony Kanal and Adrian Young will all be there. Get your tickets for the Las Vegas or California show now, and keep an eye out for dates for their new tour to be announced soon.
Awesome 80’s Prom Night Live!
There was just something fun about the 1980’s. Maybe it was the giant teased hair and the massive shoulder pads, or perhaps it was the movies like The Breakfast Club and songs like Jessie’s Girl and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Whatever it was you loved about the 80’s, you can now relive it in the Awesome 80’s Prom show in Las Vegas!
This gnarly show is pretty new, having been established in 2012, and is already getting some pretty rave reviews. Don’t think that you’ll just be sitting in the audience watching a bunch of 80’s characters on a stage either, after all this is a party! An interactive party that is. You’ll feel like you just stepped back into an 80’s prom, complete with the hunky football captain, the hot cheerleader, the nerd, the foreign exchange student and more. And what prom would be complete without a prom king and queen? The best part is that you get to vote for who wins! This is a show with some scripted scenes, but for the most part it is improv, and you and the other guests determine its outcome.
This interactive show is sure to be like no other you have ever seen. They even encourage the audience to come dressed in their best 80’s attire. That means get out your crimping iron, throw on your acid washed jeans, and dig your Members Only jacket out of the closet. Then practice your moonwalk, your vogue, and your best break dancing skills and get ready to party! Don’t forget to get your own prom photo taken before you leave.
The Awesome 80’s Prom is located at the V Theater in Las Vegas. Many people come to Las Vegas to celebrate big events such as birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties and anniversaries and this 80’s prom makes a prime location. There is plenty of dancing, drinks, and laughs at this show, plus it is better than just sitting on the sidelines, you are actually part of the fun!

Teenager Lights up Detroit in “Billy Elliot The Musical”
“Billy Elliot” is a story about an 11-year-old boy that never gives up on his hopes of becoming a dancer, despite his father’s constant ramblings about giving it up and going into boxing. So who better to portray the title character than a young boy who’s been obsessed with dancing since he was in the womb? There really is no other choice. And that’s the knowledge anyone who has the chance to see Kylend Hetherington on stage walks away with.
Hetherington, 15, loves the story of “Billy Elliot.” So much so that he’s been auditioning for the part since 2006; but has been turned away due to being too young. It was in 2008 that one of his auditions was successful, and he was given the part of Tall Boy in the musical that was showing on Broadway. Not long after getting that part, Hetherington worked his way up to the part of Billy’s best friend, Michael, and then started touring with the production in 2010.
Due to child labor laws, and the fact that Billy Elliot needs to be someone that appears to be 11 years old, the show has another Billy stepping onto stage from time to time. His name is Noah Parets, 13, who trained for months in New York before going on the road with the show; and just performed his first time in the role in July. But don’t expect that to get in the way here. These boys are all professionals.
“It’s great to have these other boys that are my age doing the exact same thing,” says Hetherington. It’s good to know that you have those people there in case you can’t do a show. If you feel sick or have injured yourself, they’re there to back you up. They are always there for you.”
The show is playing at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit until September 16.
Shows to Watch for in New York This Month
Artists are trying to cram all their shows in before the season’s over, and many of the biggest stars are putting on huge shows this month. Here are just a few that you can’t miss.
Jay-Z
Jay-Z will be taking up residence at Barclays Center the last week of September. While there he’ll play four nights from September 29 – October 1. Taking off a day to rest in between, he’ll pick the show back up on October 3 and play until October 5.
Barbara Streisand
Also at Barclay’s Center is the iconic Barbara Streisand, playing there from October 11 to October 13. Not having a solo performance there since she was 7 years of age; and not having toured since 2007, there’s no word yet on what she plans to perform. But it’s Barbara; and she’s going to be spectacular.
Madonna
Taking on the huge world-renowned stage of Madison Square Gardens is Madonna — setting up her stage there on November 12. This will be part of her “MDNA” concert and from the rave reviews the tour’s received so far, she’s bound to blow New York fans away.
The Who
Taking on the Barclay Center, MSG and the Prudential Center, The Who will be putting on a show that’s one of a kind. On November 14 at the Barclays Center they’ll perform their entire sixth album, “Quadrophenia” for fans. They’ll then take the act to MSG on December 5, and do it all over again on December 6 at the Prudential.
New York is always a place of great performances and fantastic shows, and these are just a few that are going on this month. Make sure you catch at least one!
Just in Time for Halloween, it’s the Smashing Pumpkins!
The Smashing Pumpkins have been busy traveling the world ever since their release of their ninth studio album, Oceania, in June this year. Now they’ve just announced that they’ve added a new leg to the tour, and it’s going to take them all over North America!
Although all dates and venues have not been set, it is known that the North American tour will kick off in Mexico on September 22; and it will be in Mexico that the band will play as well the next night in Monterrey, Mexico. From there the band will travel to Canada, first playing in Winnipeg on October 2. While there, they’ll also hit some of the major stops including Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.
They won’t stop there, though. The Pumpkins will land in the States on October 16 where they’ll play in Denver before moving on to St. Louis, San Francisco, Chicago, and Detroit. Other American cities are said to be in the works, but have not yet been confirmed. Tickets for most shows are on sale now but for a full listing of venues, dates, and pre-sales, you can find them on the Pumpkins’ official website here.
The makeup of the Pumpkins has changed considerably over the years. Billy Corgan who formed the group over two decades ago has come back after a solo career, but he’s the only original member still there. Now in place of Melissa Auf der Maur is Nicole Fiorentino; instead of James Iha you’ll find Jeff Schroeder on rhythm guitar; and now Mike Byrne, not Jimmy Chamberlin, is on drums and percussion.
Having been together for years now though, the current four members have proven they have all the magic that makes the Pumpkins who they are. So get your tickets today!
The Phantom of the Opera Ignites Passion
Just the words “The Phantom of the Opera” are enough to grab people’s attention! Almost everyone today knows this iconic story in one form or another. The most famous, of course, is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s interpretation with its breathtaking scenes, songs, and emotions. If you are going to be in the New York area, be sure not to miss out on your chance to see the play at the Majestic Theatre.
The original story dates back to over 100 years ago. The story Le Fantôme de l’Opéra was written by Gaston Leroux, and reached limited success at the time. It did, however, get turned into the iconic 1925 film that shocked audiences of the day. This, in turn, inspired the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. In February 2012, the musical had its 10,000th performance on Broadway, and the year 2013 will mark the 25th anniversary for the show playing at the Majestic Theatre. My how time flies! The good news is that the songs and the magic don’t age, and are still as amazing as ever.
The Phantom of the Opera musical can be hard to describe to those that have never seen it, other than simply to say, “you must see it!” When the titular song is sung and the phantom sings out “Sing for me!” and Christine hits the high note, well, it is hard not to get goose bumps! Feeling both the fear and heartbreak for the poor Phantom is also a must for all those who love a tragic love story or a good unrequited romance. The amazing colors, costuming and sound of “Masquerade” are also never to be forgotten. We won’t mention the chandelier scene for those who still don’t know and prefer to be surprised…
There is a reason this is the longest running show in the history of Broadway! If you have never seen it, then you are in for an amazing night that you won’t soon be able to forget. If you have already seen it, then you already know, but reliving the experience is still as breathtaking now as the first time. Get your tickets today and be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration!
Christina Aguilera’s New Album to be Most Personal Yet
Two years after dropping “Bionic,” her sixth album that received horrible reviews in 2010, Christina Aguilera has announced that she’s got another one coming. And for fans who are looking for something different, that’s exactly what Xtina plans to bring. She says that the as the as of yet untitled work is a “rebirth” for her.
No title, and not even a hint of a release date, but fans did get a chance to hear the first single, “Your Body” when it was leaked online last week. Most websites have been asked to take it down, as it’s not set for official release until September. But it wasn’t fast enough as YouTube covers and lyrics started popping up, and fans got a taste of this super sexy song that surprisingly, sounds a lot like Christina of past. Remember “Dirrty” and “Tough Lover?”
It’s surprising that the tracks, in lyrical content at least, sound similar, because she says, “This is all sort of a free rebirth for me. I’m embracing many different thing, but it’s all feel-good.” Well, the first single will be, that’s for sure. With maybe the exception of the baseball bat she was seen toting around the set for the video of the new single.
Christina has also said that she’s been through a divorce in the past two years (with two albums, a divorce, and coaching on “The Voice,” we agree!) And all those experiences, and the lessons from them, are going to be poured into the new music. As well as some of the people she’s worked with along the way. Fellow “Voice” coach Cee Lo Green is also reported to appear on the album.
“I’m one that likes to collaborate,” says Christina. “I love feeding off the creative energy, and it only makes me better.”
